Amber Swim Is Making Swimwear For Modern Women On The Go

The Singapore-based swimwear brand makes luxury swimwear for women who don’t have time to shop. Founder Diana Chan talks about the sweat-wicking fabrics and velvet that have become their trademark.

When Diana Chan founded her swimwear brand Amber Swim, she wanted it to be no fuss.

As a busy mother of two children, and a corporate lawyer by-day, she knows what it’s like to stuff her suitcase for trips without second-guessing her swimwear selection. Her days are busy—if not rushed—and she wants reliable swimwear that will last while she’s in the pool, rushing to grab a call or lounging on the beach.

“If I’m happy to throw a swimsuit in a suitcase without a second thought, that’s a good sign,” she said. “It has to be a piece that ticks all the boxes; premium design with standout fabric and allows for movement in and out of the water—and comfortable.”

Amber Swim is a a boutique swimwear and resort wear label with small-batch production. Founded in 2019, it’s for women who have no time to shop for swimwear. It’s for the busy, modern woman who works hard, plays hard, and wants real swimwear that fits.

“We pride ourselves on wearable, affordable luxury,” said Chan, who is based in Singapore. “When our customers wear Amber Swim, we want them to feel all sorts of wonderful.”

Their swimwear is popular in Australia and Asia and recently expanded into the US. Known for their rose gold hardware and sweat-wicking fabrics, they also have clever velvet additions for shape-fitting designs.

“Women ultimately want to look and feel good for themselves, and we want to be here to help with that,” said Chan.

More than anything, women need durable swimwear. “Each design needs to be wholly wearable and empowering from a very human perspective; whether you are facing the frenetic pace of daily work and life, or a mom struggling with a toddler and baby at the same time by the pool,” said Chan.

Some of their bestsellers this winter include its core designs in nylon and spandex, like the Gabriella top and bottom, the Blake Micro Bike Shorts, the Bella Twist-Front One-Piece in crinkle fabric, and the Gigi top and bottom in shimmer fabric. Their resort wear includes flowing dresses, pants and hoodies.

Amber Swim is built on the ethos of women dressing for themselves, not others. “Women ultimately want to look and feel good for themselves, and we want to help with that,” said Chan. “We invest in designs that flatter the female body and can be worn by several body shapes. As the brand grows further and evolves, we hope to dress more women and be more inclusive.”

Many of the designs use a special Carvico fabric from Italy called Econyl, which is an eco-friendly, sporty material made from 100 percent regenerated nylon yarn.

“The feeling of achievement we get when customers tell us how amazing they feel in our swimsuits, including women who have never worn a swimsuit in their lives, or who are postpartum, is second to none,” says Chan.

The brand recently released their new shimmer collection, Stay Awhile, featuring their bestselling styles and new items all in shimmer fabric. Next up, Amber Swim aims to expand their selection of swimwear, bodysuits and resort wear.

“We want to create swimsuits which just work for women in all their seasons,” said Chan. “Our aim is not to blindly manufacture thousands of swimsuits en-masse, but instead to be able to continually innovate and create thoughtful, elevated and wearable styles.”
